Ask most people where their content time goes and they will say writing. Watch the actual session and it is something else: a first draft arrives in twenty seconds, it is nearly right and completely unusable, and then forty minutes disappear into fixing it. Wrong audience. Wrong length. Wrong opening. Regenerate. Slightly different, still wrong. Regenerate again.<\/p>\n\n

That loop is the cost. Not the typing.<\/p>\n\n

Why the first draft comes back generic<\/h2><\/div>\n\n

Because the request was generic. “Write a blog post about our new feature” contains no audience, no purpose, no constraint, no format, and no definition of failure. Every one of those blanks gets filled in with an average \u2014 and an average is exactly what you then spend forty minutes deleting.<\/p>\n\n

The fix is not a longer prompt. It is a shorter one with the five blanks filled.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>

The five-line brief<\/h2><\/div>\n\n
Reader: [who they are, and the one thing they already know]\nJob: [what they should be able to do after reading]\nAngle: [the specific claim \u2014 not the topic]\nConstraints: [length, what to leave out, what I cannot claim]\nFormat: [structure, and how it opens]\n\nDraft this. Before you write, list anything above that is too vague\nto work from, and ask me instead of guessing.<\/pre>\n\n
The last two lines do more work than the rest combined. A draft written on a guess looks finished, so you cannot see where the guess was \u2014 you only feel that the result is off. A draft that pauses to ask which claim you actually want costs you one question and saves the rewrite.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>

Say that plainly.\nConstraints: under 150 words. No thanking anyone for being on the journey.\n             Do not imply this is a benefit to them.\nFormat: the number in the first sentence, then who is affected, then the date.\n\nDraft this. Before you write, list anything above that is too vague\nto work from, and ask me instead of guessing.<\/pre>\n\n
Same model, same minute, different economics. The second one is publishable after one edit because the decisions that caused the rewrite loop were made before the draft, by you, in five lines.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/section>
Two follow-ups that beat regenerating<\/h2><\/div>\n\n
When a draft is close but wrong, most people ask for the whole thing again and get a different wrong draft. These two are faster:<\/p>\n\n
“Which sentence is doing the least work? Cut it and show me what breaks.”<\/strong> \u2014 this finds padding you stopped seeing three drafts ago.<\/p>\n\n
“What did you assume about the reader that I never told you?”<\/strong> \u2014 this surfaces the guess. It is usually the reason the draft feels off, and it is usually one line you can correct in place.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>
What this does not do<\/h2><\/div>\n\n
It does not write the thing for you, and it does not save time on the first attempt \u2014 the five lines cost you two minutes up front. It moves the thinking to the front, where it is cheap, instead of the rewrite loop, where it is not. If you make content weekly, that trade pays for itself the first time you skip a regeneration.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>
