How to transcribe a file

Open the free speech-to-text tool at https://avaloncompany.ai/tools/speech-to-text/ and add a file from your device. The free version accepts one file at a time, up to 10 minutes long.

Leave the language on Detect automatically or select it yourself. Start with Fast, then press Transcribe. Text appears as it is transcribed.

Check the text, especially names and technical words. If they come out wrong, switch to Accurate and press Transcribe again. Download the transcript as plain text, text with timestamps, SRT or VTT.

What we tested

On 2026-11-06, we tested the free version in desktop Chromium. All 15 test cases passed.

The tool produced text from MP3 and M4A audio, video input, Korean speech with automatic language detection and English speech with the language set.

What happened with difficult files

An empty audio file and a PNG renamed to look like audio were rejected. The tool said: "This file could not be read. Try saving it again as MP3, WAV or MP4."

The tool produced text for a silent recording and a 48 kHz stereo recording. It also produced text for files with a very long name, extra spaces and an emoji, and Korean and Japanese characters in the name.

Free limits and when to use something else

The free version transcribes one file at a time, up to 10 minutes per file. An 11-minute recording was rejected with the message: "This recording is 11:00 long. The free version transcribes up to 10 minutes per file."

When we added 2 files, the tool said: "The free version transcribes one file at a time. Finish this one, press Clear, then add the next."

The tool does not accept YouTube or website links. Use a file on your device, and only transcribe recordings you own or have permission to use. Avalon Pro is available for longer recordings, batches and ZIP downloads.

We re-run these tests when the tool changes. Results describe this tool on the date shown.
