How to Convert Video to GIF Step by Step
Select up to 2 video files already stored on your device, such as MP4, MOV, or WebM clips.
Adjust your dimensions and frame rate. A width of 480 to 640 pixels at 10 to 15 frames per second keeps file sizes balanced, while 320 pixels at 8 frames per second works well for chat apps.
Set your start and end times. If you leave the end time blank, the tool will convert up to 70 seconds from the start.
Generate your GIF. The tool decodes frames inside your browser and saves the animation with no watermark, logo, or text added.
Testing Methods and Browser Results
We tested the free tier on 2026-11-04 using Chromium on desktop.
The test suite ran 18 automated cases covering typical files, format variations, and memory limits.
All 18 tests passed. The tool successfully handled clips with no audio track, portrait orientation, variable frame rates, and filenames containing spaces, emojis, Korean, or Japanese characters.
Performance on Problematic and Edge Files
A truncated video file completed conversion without crashing, producing a 669.0 KB GIF.
When fed an empty 0-byte file or a PDF renamed to look like a video, the tool stopped safely and showed: "This file could not be opened. It may be damaged, or use a format this browser can't read. Try Chrome or Edge, or another copy of the video."
Filenames with unusual characters, spaces, and emojis produced standard 667.8 KB outputs.
A vertical video produced an 820.1 KB GIF, while two variable-frame-rate test files created GIFs of 530.9 KB and 537.2 KB.
Free Tier Limits and When to Use Another Tool
The free tier allows up to 2 videos per batch and files up to 200 MB each.
Attempting to add 3 files at once triggers the limit notice: "Up to 2 files fit in one batch: 2 added, 1 left out. Make their GIFs, press Clear, then add the rest."
Files larger than 200 MB cannot be loaded into browser memory and return: "This file is larger than 200 MB, which is more than your browser can safely hold in memory. Cut it into shorter parts or use a smaller version, then try again."
This tool is not suitable if you need to fetch clips from YouTube or social media, because it does not download from the internet. It will also fail on video formats your browser cannot decode, such as HEVC in certain browsers.
We re-run these tests when the tool changes. Results describe this tool on the date shown.
