How the Etsy fee calculation works
For a US shop, Etsy charges three fees on a sale. There is a $0.20 listing fee. There is a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping. There is also a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25.
The transaction fee and the processing fee both apply to the shipping you charge, not only the item price. An optional Offsite Ads fee is added only on orders that came from those ads.
The payment processing fee depends on the country of your bank account. For some countries a small regulatory operating fee is added too. The calculator adds it automatically and shows results in that country's currency.
What the worked examples show
We entered four item prices into the live calculator. Each one is a US shop with no shipping. A $10 item leaves $8.60 after $1.40 in fees. A $25 item leaves $22.17 after $2.83. A $50 item leaves $44.80 after $5.20. A $100 item leaves $90.05 after $9.95.
Compare the rows. The transaction fee grows with the price: −$0.65, −$1.63, −$3.25 and −$6.50. The payment processing fee grows too: −$0.55, −$1.00, −$1.75 and −$3.25.
In each row, the total is $0.20 more than the transaction fee and processing fee added together. That $0.20 is the listing fee from the tool page.
The fixed parts, the $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 in the processing fee, are a bigger share of a small sale. That is why the $10 item loses $1.40 in fees while the $100 item loses $9.95.
