How to Trim Video Without Losing Quality Step by Step
Open the tool and choose video files stored on your device. The free tier accepts up to 2 files in one batch.
Enter your cut points. You can enter seconds like 90, minutes and seconds like 1:30, or hours like 1:02:30. You can also include tenths of a second, such as 1:30.5. Leave Start empty to keep the beginning of the file, or leave End empty to keep the ending. The thumbnail next to each file displays the frame at your chosen start time.
Select Fast cut. Fast cut copies the original video and audio tracks without re-encoding them, preserving the exact original quality in seconds. Start the process to create and save the new MP4 directly on your device.
Our Test Suite and Evaluation Setup
We tested the free tier of the tool on 2026-11-05 using Chromium on desktop. The suite contained 17 distinct test cases covering regular usage, edge cases, and file limits.
The tool passed all 17 tests. We evaluated standard MP4 files, alternative formats such as MOV and WebM, portrait videos, audio-free clips, variable-frame-rate files, and filenames containing non-standard characters.
Handling of Challenging Files and Edge Cases
The tool processed all supported edge files into MP4 outputs. It cut MOV and WebM files, portrait orientation videos, silent clips, and two variable-frame-rate videos without errors. Filenames with long strings, extra spaces, emojis, or Korean and Japanese text also passed without issues.
A truncated video file was recovered and trimmed to a 148.6 KB MP4. When given an empty 0-byte file or a PDF renamed as a video, the tool safely stopped and displayed this message: "This file could not be opened. It may be damaged, or use a format this browser can't read. Try Chrome or Edge, or another copy of the video."
Free Tier Limits and When to Use Another Solution
The free tier allows up to 2 files per batch and up to 200 MB per file. The 200 MB restriction exists because files are assembled inside browser memory. Adding a file larger than 200 MB triggers the warning: "This file is larger than 200 MB, which is more than your browser can safely hold in memory. Cut it into shorter parts or use a smaller version, then try again." If you add 3 files, the tool warns: "Up to 2 files fit in one batch: 2 added, 1 left out. Trim these, press Clear, then add the rest."
This tool is not suitable if you need to fetch video from YouTube or external websites, as it only works with files stored locally on your device. It is also not suitable if you need different trim ranges for each file, because one batch shares the same start and end times. In addition, because Fast cuts only occur on key frames, older players might show a few seconds before your start mark; if you need frame-level precision on all players, Exact cut is required instead.
We re-run these tests when the tool changes. Results describe this tool on the date shown.
