How to Convert MP4 to MP3 Step by Step

Open the tool page in your browser. Choose your video file from your device storage or mobile gallery. You do not need to register, create an account, or log in.

Select your preferred audio format and bitrate. You can use 192 kbps for music, 128 kbps for speech and podcasts, or 96 kbps Mono for smaller files. For uncompressed sound or maximum MP3 quality, select WAV or 320 kbps. If you only want a clip, enter Start at and End at times such as 1:30 and 4:05.

Click Extract audio. The tool processes the audio track locally inside your browser without uploading your media to a server. When processing finishes, save the converted MP3 file to your device.

What We Tested and How

We tested the free tier of the tool on 2026-11-05 using Chromium on a desktop computer. The test suite evaluated 17 test cases across normal videos, edge cases, and file constraints.

All 17 tests passed. The suite covered standard MP4 files, MOV videos, WebM media, vertical aspect ratios, and variable-frame-rate recordings. We also tested long filenames, foreign scripts, truncated files, and batch upload thresholds.

What Happened with Difficult Files

Files with unusual names converted without errors. Videos with very long filenames, extra spaces with an emoji, and Korean or Japanese characters all generated 118.2 KB MP3 files. A vertical video produced a 94.9 KB MP3, while two variable-frame-rate videos yielded 96.1 KB and 93.1 KB files.

A truncated video file completed conversion and produced a 56.3 KB MP3 file. In contrast, invalid or silent media files produced a clear warning rather than an MP3. When tested on a 0-byte video, a video with no soundtrack, and a PDF file renamed as a video, the tool displayed: "No sound could be read from this file. It may have no audio track, or use a format this browser can't open. Try Chrome, Edge or Firefox, or save the video as MP4 first."

Free Tier Limits and When Not to Use This Tool

The free tool allows up to 2 files per batch and files up to 200 MB. When we added 3 files to test batch limits, the tool stated: "Up to 2 files fit in one batch: 2 added, 1 left out. Convert these, press Clear, then add the rest." Adding a file that exceeded 200 MB triggered: "This file is larger than 200 MB. Cut the video into shorter parts or use a smaller version, then try again."

This tool is not the right choice if you need to download audio from YouTube or other websites, as it only works on files already stored on your device. It is also unsuitable for files longer than about 2.5 hours; browser memory limits prevented some 3-hour files from converting. Trimming does not bypass memory limits because the browser loads the full video before cutting. Additionally, Safari may fail to open WebM or MKV formats.

We re-run these tests when the tool changes. Results describe this tool on the date shown.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Are my video files uploaded to a remote server?

No. The audio extraction runs entirely inside your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server, making it safe for private recordings.

Q. Can I convert video recordings longer than 2.5 hours?

Recordings longer than roughly 2.5 hours may exceed your browser's memory. In our tests, 2.5-hour files converted, but some 3-hour files were refused.

Q. Can I use this tool to download audio from YouTube?

No. The tool cannot download audio from the internet or streaming sites. It only extracts audio from video files already saved on your device.
