How to convert a PDF to Word with no sign-up

Open the free tool at https://avaloncompany.ai/tools/pdf-to-word/. There is no sign-up, no email and no watermark on the Word file.

Step 1: Choose your PDF from your files. The free version converts one PDF at a time, up to 50 pages and 25 MB.

Step 2: Leave OCR on if your PDF is a scan. It is on by default. Turn it off if you want scanned pages kept as pictures.

Step 3: Convert, then open the Word file in Word, Google Docs or Pages. This also works on a phone, but long documents take longer there than on a computer.

The tool page says the conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF is not sent to a server.

What we tested and how

We tested on 2026-11-01 in Chromium on a desktop, using the free tier. We ran 15 cases and all 15 passed.

The cases covered three kinds of checks. One was a normal file. Eleven were edge cases: odd file names, mixed page sizes, many languages, a scanned PDF, and broken or locked files. Three were limit checks: a file over the size limit, two files at once, and a PDF over the page limit.

A results table with every case is shown on this page.

What happened with the difficult files

Good files converted. A typical file came out as a Word file of 9.9 KB with 3 pages, 3 headings and 3 tables. A very long file name, a name with extra spaces and an emoji, and a name with Korean and Japanese characters all converted too, each at 10.0 KB with 3 pages, 3 headings and 3 tables. A PDF with pages of different sizes gave the same 3 pages, 3 headings and 3 tables.

Many languages worked. A PDF with Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Thai and Russian text converted to a 10.2 KB file with 2 pages, 4 headings and 2 tables.

A scanned, image-only PDF was turned into text. The tool reported: "9.4 KB · 1 page · 1 scanned page turned into text". The tool page notes that handwriting and blurry scans may need manual corrections.

Bad files were refused with a clear message. A 1-byte PDF and a JPEG renamed to look like a PDF both got: "is not really a PDF: its contents are in a different format, so it was not added." A cut-off file got: "This file is not a valid PDF or it is damaged." A 0-byte file got: "pdf_zero.pdf is empty (0 bytes), so it was not added."

A password-protected PDF was not converted. The tool said: "This PDF is locked. Unlock it in your PDF reader, save an unlocked copy, then add that copy."

Limits of the free version and when this tool is not the right choice

The free version has three limits we tested. A file over 25 MB is not added: "the limit is 25 MB." Only one PDF is converted at a time: "so only the first one you chose was used." A PDF of 51 pages was refused: "The free version converts up to 50 pages: split it with the free split PDF tool first."

Simple documents convert best, such as letters, reports, articles and contracts. Complex layouts may need tidying in Word. These include magazines, forms with boxes, text over pictures, footnotes and tables without clear gaps between columns. Fonts are matched to similar common fonts.

Tables with clear gaps between columns become real Word tables. Tables that run together, or span several pages, may come out as plain text lines. If you want a table in a spreadsheet, the tool page points to the free PDF to Excel converter.

Pages with three or more columns, or columns of very different widths, may come out in the wrong order. Two-column articles and papers are handled: the left column is read first, then the right.

We re-run these tests when the tool changes. Results describe this tool on the date shown.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Is the PDF to Word converter really free with no sign-up?

Yes. You can convert as many PDFs as you like, one at a time, up to 50 pages each. There is no sign-up, no email and no watermark on the Word file.

Q. Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. In our test the tool said the PDF is locked. Unlock it in your PDF reader, save an unlocked copy, and convert that copy.

Q. What if my PDF is longer than 50 pages?

The free version refuses PDFs over 50 pages. In our test, a 51-page file was not converted, and the tool suggested splitting it first with the free split PDF tool.
