How to convert a Word file to PDF with no sign-up

Open the free Word to PDF converter at https://avaloncompany.ai/tools/word-to-pdf/. You do not need an account or an email address.

Choose your .docx file. On a phone, pick it from your files. The tool takes one document at a time.

Pick a quality mode. High quality is the default. It keeps the page size, margins, fonts, colors, columns, text boxes, headers, footers, page numbers and footnotes the way Word lays them out. Standard (fast) rebuilds the document on clean pages. You get the same words, structure and pictures, but not the exact layout.

Convert the file and download the PDF. The text in the PDF is real text, so you can select, search and copy it. Links stay clickable.

If your file is an old .doc, the tool will not take it directly. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, save it as .docx, then convert that file.

What we tested and how

On 2026-11-01 we ran 14 test cases in desktop Chromium on the free tier. All 14 passed. A pass means the tool did the right thing. For a good file that is a PDF. For a bad file it is a clear message and no broken output.

The cases cover three kinds of input. Normal files: a typical file and a High quality run. Edge cases: odd file contents and odd file names. Limits: files, pages and sizes just over the free limit.

The results table on this page lists every case. One size-limit case appears twice in the record.

What happened with the difficult files

Good files worked, even with unusual names. A very long file name, a name with extra spaces and an emoji, and a name with Korean and Japanese characters each gave a 1-page PDF of 1.5 KB.

A Word file with Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Thai and Russian text gave a 1-page PDF of 28.1 KB. The High quality run showed "Converted on the server".

Broken files were refused with a plain message. A PNG renamed to look like a Word file got: "docx_fake.docx is not really a .docx file: its contents are in a different format, so it was not added. Open it in Word and save it again as .docx."

A cut-off Word file got: "This file could not be read as a Word document. Open it in Word and save it again as .docx." An empty file got: "docx_zero.docx is empty (0 bytes), so it was not added."

Files over the limits were stopped too. A file 1 MB over the size limit got: "docx_mb_26.docx was not added: the limit is 25 MB." A 51-page document got: "This document is longer than 50 pages. The free version converts up to 50 pages." Two files at once got: "The free version converts one file at a time, so only the first one you chose was used."

Limits of the free version and when to choose something else

The free version converts one document at a time. High quality takes files up to 25 MB, and there is an hourly limit on High quality documents. Standard takes up to 50 pages.

If your file is over 25 MB, the tool says: "Choose Standard to convert it in your browser, or make the file smaller." Standard converts it in your browser, but the page layout will not match Word exactly.

The tool does not read old .doc files. Save them as .docx first.

If you need many documents at once, larger files, or one ZIP file of results, the tool page lists Avalon Pro for that. For a single .docx under the limits, the free version is enough.

We re-run these tests when the tool changes. Results describe this tool on the date shown.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Is Word to PDF really free with no sign-up?

Yes. You can convert documents one at a time with no sign-up, no email and no watermark. The free version has limits: 25 MB per file with High quality and up to 50 pages with Standard.

Q. What happens if my .docx is broken or empty?

The tool refuses it and tells you why. In our tests an empty file, a cut-off file and a renamed PNG were each refused with a clear message. The usual fix is to open the file in Word and save it again as .docx.

Q. Will Korean, Japanese or Arabic text come out right?

In our test, a Word file with Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Thai and Russian text converted to a 1-page PDF. The tool page says that if a rare character cannot be drawn, the result line tells you how many.
