Free PDF to Excel Converter: Tables to XLSX or CSV

Last updated By Avalon

Copy the tables out of a PDF into Excel (.xlsx) or CSV for free.

Free, no sign-up and no watermark. Conversion runs in your browser, so it starts right away, even on a phone.

      What this tool does

It finds the tables in a PDF and turns them into a spreadsheet you can sort, filter and add up. You get an Excel file (.xlsx) and a CSV file, free, with no account and no watermark.

The converter looks at where each piece of text sits on the page. Text in the same line becomes a row, and wide gaps between pieces of text become the borders between columns. Numbers such as 1,234.50 or (45.00) become real numbers in the spreadsheet.

      How to use it

      1. Drop a PDF into the box above, or click it to choose one.
      2. Press Convert to Excel.
      3. Check the table in the preview. Merge or delete columns, delete rows you do not need, or click a cell to fix it.
      4. Press Download .xlsx or Download .csv.

      Tips for the best result

      • Statements and invoices work best with "Table rows only", which leaves out titles and addresses.
      • Need the text around the table too? Choose "All text on the page".
      • Columns split in the wrong place? Change Columns to "Fewer columns" or "More columns" and convert again.
      • Several pages? "All pages in one sheet" puts a long statement in one list; "One sheet per page" keeps each page apart.
      • Need the whole document, not just the tables? Use the free PDF to Word converter.
      • Going the other way? Use the free Excel to PDF converter.

      Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF to Excel converter free?

Yes. Convert as many PDFs as you like, one at a time, up to 50 pages each. No sign-up, no email and no watermark.

      Which PDFs work best?

PDFs made by a computer, such as bank and card statements, invoices, price lists and reports exported from other software, where each column is clearly separated from the next. Numbers are stored as real numbers, so you can add them up right away.

What if the columns come out wrong?

Use the preview. Merge two columns that belong together, delete a column or row you do not need, or click a cell to fix it. If many columns are split or joined, change Columns to Fewer or More and convert again.

Can it read a scanned PDF?

No. A scan is a picture and has no text to copy. Read it first with the free image to text tool, then paste the text into your spreadsheet.

What about cells with several lines of text?

A cell whose text wraps onto a second line may come out as an extra row. Merge it by hand in the preview or in Excel. Tables with merged cells or text running between columns also need a quick check.

      XLSX or CSV?

XLSX opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice with numbers already formatted. CSV is plain text that almost any app can import.

      Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF is not sent to a server.
