Free Crop PDF: Trim Margins and Cut Pages to Size

Last updated By Avalon

Trim white margins or cut every page of a PDF down to the area you draw, for easier reading on phones and e-readers or cleaner printing.

Cropping hides everything outside the area you keep, but it is still inside the file and can be brought back. To remove private details for good, use the redact PDF tool instead.

Free, no sign-up and no watermark. The PDF stays on your device: nothing is uploaded.

      What this tool does

To crop a PDF for free, drop it above, draw the area you want to keep on the preview and press Crop PDF: every page is cut to that area, with no sign-up and nothing uploaded. Trimming wide margins makes papers and books much easier to read on a phone or an e-reader, and cutting a scan to the paper's edge removes the dark border around it.

      How to use it

      1. Drop your PDF into the box above, or click it to choose it. The first page appears.
      2. Drag on the page to draw the area to keep, or drag the corners of the box. You can also type the trims in percent.
      3. Use the arrows to look at other pages: they will be cropped to the same area.
      4. Press Crop PDF, then Download PDF.

      Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a PDF for free?

Drop the PDF above, drag on the page preview to draw the area to keep, or type how much to trim from each edge, and press Crop PDF. Every page is cut to that area, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Can I crop just the white margins?

Yes. Type a few percent under Trim from top, bottom, left and right, or draw a box just inside the text on the preview. Use the arrows to check other pages before saving.

Are all pages cropped the same way?

Yes. The area you keep is the same share of every page, which suits books, papers and slides where every page has the same layout.

      Is the cropped part deleted?

No. Cropping hides everything outside the area you keep, in every reader and when printing, but it is still inside the file and could be brought back with editing software. To remove private details for good, use our free redact PDF tool.

      Does cropping lower the quality?

No. The pages are not redrawn, so text stays sharp and searchable and pictures are not compressed again.

      Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is cropped inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to our servers.

      Are there limits?

The free version crops one PDF of up to 100 MB at a time. Avalon Pro crops up to 50 PDFs (500 MB) the same way in one go and adds a ZIP download, saved presets and your own file names.
