What this tool does

How to use it

Tips for a meme that works
- Keep it short. Most good memes use fewer than ten words per caption, so they read at a glance in a feed.
- White text with a black outline reads on almost any picture. Switch to black text on very light images without an outline.
- Leave room at the top and bottom of the picture, or crop it first, so the text does not cover faces.
- Square and 4:5 portrait pictures show the largest in social feeds. Use our free image resizer to crop or resize first.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The meme is drawn inside your browser, on your own device. Your picture is not sent to our servers or anyone else.
Does the download have a watermark?
No. The image you download is just your picture and your text, at the full size of the original (very large images are saved at up to 4,096 pixels on the long side).
Why is there no gallery of popular meme templates?
Most famous meme pictures are photos or film stills that belong to someone else. This tool works with images you bring, such as your own photos, screenshots and drawings, so you know you can use what you make.
How do I move the text?
Drag it on the picture with your mouse or finger. Top and bottom text start in the classic spots, and each extra text box starts in the middle.
Can I write in other languages?
Yes. The classic meme font covers English and most European languages. For Korean, Japanese, Chinese and other scripts, choose Plain bold so every character shows in your device's own bold font.
PNG or JPG?
PNG keeps the text edges perfectly sharp and is best for sharing in chats. JPG makes a smaller file, which helps when a site limits upload size.
