Last updated By Avalon

Edit a PDF for free: add or change text, add images, shapes, arrows and highlights, white out mistakes and draw by hand.

Free, no sign-up and no watermark. Need to move, rotate or delete pages? Use the free organize PDF tool.

      What this tool does

It lets you change a PDF without special software. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. You can:

      • Add text anywhere, in three font styles, any size, bold or italic, in six colors.
      • Edit existing text: tap a line and retype it.
      • Add images, such as a logo, a stamp or a photo.
      • Draw shapes: rectangles, circles, lines and arrows.
      • Highlight important passages.
      • White out mistakes or old details.
      • Draw by hand with your mouse, finger or pen.

When you save, your changes are drawn onto the pages of a new PDF. Your original file is not changed.

      How to use it

      1. Drop a PDF into the box above, or click it to choose one. The pages appear below.
      2. Pick a tool in the toolbar: Add text, Edit text, Image, a shape, Highlight, Whiteout or Draw.
      3. Tap or drag on the page. New text is ready to type right away.
      4. Switch to Select to move, resize, restyle or delete what you added. Undo takes back the last change.
      5. Press Save PDF, then Download.

      Tips

      • Changing a date or a name? Use Edit text and tap it: the white cover and the new text line up with the original.
      • Filling in a form? Use Add text for each field, then drag each box onto its line.
      • Need to sign it? Use the free sign PDF tool to draw or type your signature.
      • Need to move or delete pages first? Use the free organize PDF tool.
      • Need the text in Word instead? Use the free PDF to Word converter.

      Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF editor really free?

Yes. Every tool on this page is free, with no sign-up, no email and no watermark on your PDF.

Can I change the existing text in a PDF?

Yes, line by line. Choose Edit text and tap the words you want to change. They are covered with white and the same words appear in a text box on top, in a similar font and size, ready to retype. The result looks like an edit, but the old words are only covered, not deleted (see the next question). Fonts are matched to Arial, Times or Courier, so a document in a special font may look slightly different where you edited it.

Does Whiteout remove the text underneath?

No. Whiteout and Edit text put a white box over the old content. It is hidden when you view or print the PDF, but the original text is still inside the file and can be copied or found by search. Do not use it to hide private information such as account numbers before sharing a file. For that you need a redaction tool that deletes the content.

      Can I edit any PDF?

Only edit documents you own or are allowed to change. Changing someone else's document, a signed contract or an official record without permission can be illegal. Locked PDFs cannot be opened until you unlock them in your PDF reader.

      Which languages can I type?

Any. Text in English and other Western European languages is saved as real, searchable PDF text. Text in other alphabets, such as Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Arabic, is saved as a sharp picture of the text, so it looks right but cannot be searched.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Pick a tool, then tap or drag on the page with your finger. In Select, tap an item to move it and pull the round handle to resize it. To type in a text box, use the text field in the toolbar.

How do I reorder or delete pages?

Use the free organize PDF tool to move, rotate, add or delete pages, then open the result here to edit it.

      Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The editor runs in your browser, so the PDF is not sent to a server.
