Free Auto Subtitle Generator: Add Subtitles to Video, No Watermark

Last updated By Avalon

Make subtitles for your video automatically, fix any line, pick a style and burn them into the video, or download SRT and VTT.

The video is processed right in your browser, so long videos take a while on slower devices. Subtitles are written by AI: read them before you publish.

    What this tool does

It listens to your video, writes the subtitles for you and times every line. You can fix any word, change the timing, choose how the subtitles look, and either burn them into the video as part of the picture or download an SRT or VTT file. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

    How to use it

    1. Drop your video into the box above, or click it to choose one.
    2. Press Make subtitles. Pick Short subtitle length for vertical videos such as Shorts, Reels and TikTok.
    3. Check the lines. Click a line to see that moment in the preview, fix any word, or change its start and end time.
    4. Choose a font, size, color, background and position. The preview shows the result as you change it.
    5. Press Burn subtitles into the video to get an MP4, or Download SRT or Download VTT for a separate caption file.

    Tips

    • Keep vertical videos' subtitles in the middle: the bottom of the screen is covered by the app's buttons and captions.
    • Short lines are easier to read on a phone. Use the Short subtitle length for anything vertical.
    • AI subtitles can get names and rare words wrong. Read every line before you publish.
    • Need only a transcript, not subtitles? Use our free speech to text tool. To cut the video first, use trim video.

    Frequently asked questions

Is it really free with no watermark?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark on the video. Free covers subtitles for videos up to 10 minutes, SRT and VTT downloads, every style option, and burned-in subtitles for videos up to 3 minutes, which covers Shorts, Reels and TikTok. Avalon Pro is for longer videos, several videos at once, and saved styles.

How do I add subtitles to my video?

Drop your video in, press Make subtitles, and check the lines. Pick a font, size, color, background box and position while you watch the preview, then press Burn subtitles into the video to get an MP4 with the captions drawn on it, or download an SRT or VTT file to upload to YouTube.

Burned-in or SRT: which do I need?

Burned-in subtitles are part of the picture, so they show everywhere, including on Shorts, Reels and TikTok, and they look exactly the way you styled them. An SRT or VTT file is a separate caption track: viewers can switch it off, YouTube can index it, and you can still edit it later.

    How long does it take?

The first time, your browser downloads the speech model once: about 40 MB for Fast or 77 MB for Accurate. On a recent laptop, a minute of video takes about 5 seconds to turn into subtitles with Fast and about 15 seconds with Accurate. Burning the subtitles in rewrites the whole video: on a recent laptop a one-minute 720p video takes about 5 to 10 seconds, and phones and older computers take longer.

    Which languages work?

English, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and many more. Leave the language on Detect automatically, or pick it yourself. Fonts with Korean, Japanese and Chinese letters come from your device, so those subtitles use its standard font.

Can I use my own subtitle file?

Yes. Press Use my own SRT or VTT to load an existing subtitle file, edit it if needed, choose a style and burn it into the video.

    Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens on your device, in your browser, so your videos are not sent to our servers or anyone else.

    What are the limits?

Free: one video at a time, up to 500 MB, subtitles for up to 10 minutes and burned-in subtitles for up to 3 minutes. Avalon Pro: up to 10 videos at once, subtitles for up to 2 hours, burned-in subtitles for up to 15 minutes per video, saved subtitle styles and one ZIP with every MP4 and SRT.
